Peptitler (Grekçe: πεπτίδια; “küçümencik sindirilebilirler”) tanılamamlanmış bir düzende, α-amino asitlerin birbirine demetlanmasıyla oluşan gücük polimerlerdir.[1] Bir amino asit sözıntısı ile başkası arasındaki bağ bir “amit bağ” yahut peptit bağı olarak bilinir.[1]
Tetrapeptit (Oligopeptit)
Proteinler polipeptit molekülleridir (yahut çok skorda polipeptit alt birimi barındırır). çizgi üstelik peptitlerin gücük, polipeptitlerin/proteinlerin ise uzun olmasıdır.[1]
Protein sentezi sırasında her amino asit, öbür amino asite kesiksiz, kırılmayan bir polimer olan polipeptid zincirleriyle demetlanır. Polipeptid mimarisına hoşgörüsüzlan amino asitlerin her biri mimariya peptid demetlarıyla demetlanır. Peptid bağının oluşumu sırasında amino asitlerden birinin amino grubu ile diğerinin karboksil grubu, aradan bir sutaş çıkması sonucu birleşirler.[1]
Averaj bir polipeptit zinciri 450 amino asitten oluşur.[1] Bilindik en uzun polipeptit, yaklaşık 27,000 amino asitten oluşan, kas dokusunda bulunan “titin”dir. Polipeptid zincirine hoşgörüsüzlan amino asitlere sözıntı (residue) adı verilir.[1] Zincirin bir ucundaki sözıntı, bağ yapmamış, degaje amino grubu barındırır ve N ucu olarak adlandırılır. Aynı şekilde zincirin öbür ucundaki degaje α-karboksil grubu olan sözıntıevet C ucu adı verilir.
